LC Worlds Week!

So the countdown and taper has begun! In just 3 days I will be boarding the plane wheeling my bike case through the mad rush crowd of O'Hare airport. I'm nervous, yet excited about what is to come. The race: Long Course Duathlon World Championships includes two simple worlds that frighten me- Long Course. Me...coming from a short distance background has to put my body through the pain of competing for close to 4 hours. In high school my specialty was the 800 meter run. So what did that race take me to do... 1:54 (back then). No, not 1 hour 54 minutes....1 minute and 54 seconds! But that is where my life has taken me as of now. I couldn't be more proud to represent my country in the Pro race. I've worked really hard this past year and think that some great things are to come. I have a lot of confidence in myself that all my hard work will pay off. My running is continuing to improve (finally can run under 14:40 for a 5k!) and my cycling has improved dramatically (when I'm having a good day). I just pray that all my work comes together for Long Course Worlds so that I can have a good showing. It is a little disappointing that the U23 division was taken out of consideration for this race. I felt that I was in good contention to become a U23 World Champion, but due to authority problems, I found out today that there will no longer be a U23 division. I am racing with all the other Professional from around the world, which I have no problem with because I know that I can compete with many of them. My age compared to most of them is much younger, but you know what, it just shows that I have a lot of potential for improvement in many years to come.

Sadly, after LC Du Worlds, my focus will be switched over to the triathlon scene. Don't get me wrong, I will still be racing in a few Du's each year (Worlds and Nats), but my ultimate goal is to start racing on the ITU Triathlon Series. With continued work on my swim and the great help of my coach, Adam Zucco of TrainingBible.com, I know that I can achieve this goal. I'm still debating on moving out to Colorado next year once I graduate...anyone have any opinions??? I think it will be a good move, but being away from family, not knowing anybody, and not having a job all worry me a little. But we will see what happens!

Other than that, I will post a race update once I race on Sunday with pictures as usual. Good luck to everyone racing and finish up the season on one last good note!
